普通、他の国の剣は鋳造して成型→鍛造で完成だけど、
日本刀の手間のかかり方は尋常じゃない。

まず地金。
炭素量の少ない「柔らかい鋼」を背に「硬い鋼」を刃として組み合わせる。
だから切れ味は鋭いのに、折れにくい。

んで、鍛造。
槌で打って鋼を圧着し、形を整え、鍛造効果で硬度は増す。
でも背側の鋼は柔らかいから、砕けにくく、しなやか。
しかも脱酸効果もあって鋼の純度は上がる。

そして熱処理。
水焼入れするんだけど、
焼き入れ速度（鋼を冷ます速度）が速ければ速いほど、鋼は硬く・もろくなる。
だから刀身に泥を塗り、刃だけを露出させて焼き入れ。（刀の刃紋はこれで出来る）
当然刃先は硬くなるが、刀身は冷却速度が遅いのでしなやかさを保つ。

工学とか知らない人にとっちゃﾜｹﾜｶﾒかも知れんが、
この技術は成立年代的に考えてオーバーテクノロジーもいいとこ。
こんな武器が戦でのサブウェポンだったんだから、日本恐ろしい・・・。

 »33で書かれてるのは新刀と呼ばれる江戸時代になってからの製法で
オーバーテクノロジーと言われてる技術はそれ以前の古刀と言われるもので
製法が刀匠や土地によってバラバラで再現が不可能。最近の研究で
古刀にはカーボンナノチューブやチタンが含まれている事がわかったが製法は不明。
